Tabs Leaders EazyDraw for macOS palette controls

The Tabs palette provides control and inspection of tab stops in a text box. An individual tab stop may have a leader line that is drawn across the space of the tab.

Both text and a specific tab stop needs to be selected to use the Leader parameters. Select the text on the drawing then select a particular tab stop by clicking on a row in the table at the top of the Tabs palette.

This palette is accessed from the on the Text main menu, Paragraph submenu, Tabs selection (found at the top of the submenu). The parameters shown relate to a text box or a text selection in a text box. This palette does not work with Annotation text , only normal typeset text boxes.

The popup menu below the Leader title is used to control enable or disable a leader line for a specific tab stop. The "None" selection turns the Leader "off" for the selected tab stop(s). Selections are provided for a solid leader line, a sequence of dots, or a dashed line pattern. A selection other than None is naturally needed to enable the other Leader parameters discussed below.

A Shift may be applied to the baseline position of the leader. This value is measured as a percentage of the Font Size. The zero position is the baseline for the Font in use. Negative values position the leader below base line and positive offset the leader above the baseline.

The Weight parameter specifies the line thickness, or dot radius, of the leader line. Values are measured as a percentage of the size (vertical) of the Font specified.

The Arrow popup menu is used to specify an arrow for either or both ends of the leader line. The arrow menu is self explanatory, information explained for the main Arrows Palette applies in a similar fashion.

A leader is normally drawn with the color specified for the text. Explicit control of the leader color(s) is enabled if the From Text checkbox is unchecked. When checked the associated Color Well is used to specify a specific color for the leader line. Transparency is allowed.

It is often desirable to have leader lines alternate in color, such as on an accountants tablet. This is activated with the Alternate checkbox. Explicit leader line color needs to be in use for this option to enable. When in use, the alternate color is selected with the associated Color Well.

Multiple selections are allowed in the Tab Stop table. To apply the same leader properties to several tab stops at once, click on multiple rows with the shift key held down.

When using the leader Color Wells careful attention needs to be made to the state of each color well. This is because text is selected when working with tab stops. If the Color Well are deactivated, color changes are directed to the selected text. The situation can become more involved when different colors might apply to different tab stops. But all is logical when care is taken to note the current status of the Color Wells.

If the leader color options provided on this palette are not adequate or quite appropriate for a desired coloring scheme. Full control of the color of each leader is possible by upchucking the From Text option and using the methods available for specifying the color of an individual text character with the Graphic Details Inspector.
