Smooth (or Continuous) Bezier Curves are defined by vertices. The vertices are defined by a point, a tangent angle, and two control lengths.
The example to the left shows the contents of the Graphic Details Inspector when a Smooth Bezier Curve is selected. To view this information use the
Graphic Details
menu command found on the Tools menu of the Main menu.
To show the information for a Smooth Bezier Curve item on a drawing, the Inspector must be open and the Smooth Bezier Curve must be selected. The Smooth Bezier Curve of interest must be the only item selected.
The Vertex text box under the Vertices heading selects the current vertex whose information is shown in the Graphic Details Inspector. The stepper is used to sequence through each vertex, or a number may be entered to select a specific vertex.
Vertices are numbered from 1 to the number of vertices used to define the curve. The first and last vertices are unique, they are defined by only one control length, all others have two control lengths. The first vertex has no leading control length and the last vertex has no trailing control length. When these vertices are selected these lengths are disabled and shown with zero length.
The vertex number shown will follow the mouse click or move of a handle on the drawing. The vertex number under investigation is shown on the drawing with Orange handles, the other vertices' handles are shown brown in color. The controls for the focused segment are drawn in pink, the others are shown in blue. When a Smooth Bezier Curve is selected the last segment modified is shown in the information Inspector.
The coordinates of the vertex and lengths of the controls are shown in the numeric text boxes. The value of any of these may be changed by entering a new number. The tangent to the curve at the vertex is shown in the Angle text box. This is also the angle of the control line. The angle is entered in degrees. This angle may be changed by entering a new value in the Angle numeric text box.
