Scale Origin

Each document has a defined origin. The numeric position of all items on the drawing are measured relative to this origin. You may set the origin using the numeric text boxes shown circled. Or the origin may be moved by dragging a Ruler with the mouse. In this case the applicable origin parameter is updated to reflect the change.

The origin settings apply to a drawing (document). Several drawings may be shown on the desk top with different origins. The scale shown on the panel applies to the drawing shown in EazyDraw’s top window.

The origin defined here will be the starting point (or origin) of Grids . The Grids will move with any change of the origin.

The Cartesian origin for a drawing is defined by the horizontal "X" distance from the left of the drawing and the vertical distance "Y" from the top of the drawing. Move the origin by changing either number to a new entry in the appropriate numeric text box. The distances are measured "Plus to Right" and "Plus Down", this definition of direction is not effected by the selections made for the Axes parameters.

The distances are measured in the Units defined for the drawing. They are measured relative to the full drawing as defined by the selections on the Page Layout panel.

Another way to move the origin is to drag a ruler. Rulers need to be showing, naturally. Click and drag, within one of the ruler areas (horizontal or vertical) and the origin will position with mouse movements. If the Command key is held down, the origin moves and graphics remain fixed, otherwise the origin and graphic both move with the mouse movement.

The origin may be changed at any time. All graphics will be moved and redrawn. Their size does not change but their position on the screen and drawing paper will move with the change.

The numeric position values shown on the Graphic Details Inspector depend on the position of the graphic relative to the origin. If the origin is moved, the drawn graphic item will move, but the position stays the same. Therefore no changes are seen on the Graphic Details Inspector when the origin is changed.

When working with the origin it may be useful to show Rulers on the drawing. They can provide numeric feedback concerning the relative location of graphics, the origin, and the drawing.
