Grids - Rectangular

This tab view provides inspection and input used with the rectangular grid graphic.

Rectangular grids are drawn using the tools found near the bottom of the Technical Tools palette which is opened from the View Main menu.

The example to the left shows the contents of the Graphic Details Inspector when a Rectangular Grid graphic is selected and Graphic Details Inspector is in use. To view this information use the Graphic Details menu command found on the Tools main menu.

The Top Left and Size parameters specify a rectangle that defines the area of the rectangular grid. The values are entered in the units for the drawing.

The Interval parameters define independently the spacing of the grid, up-and-down and across. These values are lengths, in the units of the drawing.

The "phase" or starting point of the grid is specified by the two percentage parameters titles Start A/D, the A/D stands for Across and Down. These values are shown and entered as a percentage of the corresponding (across or down) interval. The values have meaning over the range of 0 to 100 percent.

Grid elements is used in conjunction with Tick Marks and Text Label sequences to assemble the elements of a chart or graph. The elements are provided as independent tools for maximum flexibility in designing graphing components.

The Outline parameter of the Color and Style associated with a grid applies to the bounding border of the grid rectangle.

Grids may also be drawn with the Axes Tick tools, found next to the Grid tools on the Technical tool palette. With a Tick graphic the horizontal and vertical grids are drawn as two of the Axes Tick elements. If a logarithmic spacing is needed, the Tick tool approach is used, it is not possible to attain a variable spacing with the Rectangular Grid graphic.
