Spelling

This submenu is used to access spell and grammar checking.

This submenu is accessed from the Text main menu, near the bottom.

Both Text Boxes and Annotation text may be spell checked. Text that has been converted to outline (Bezier) cannot be spell checked.

The Spelling Panel item is used to Open the system spell checking panel. Spell checking access is provided from this panel, or directly from the menu operations described below.

Spelling Selection will spell check just the selected Text graphics, both text boxes and annotation text. The system spelling panel is presented and used to process through each spelling issue.

Mark Misspellings works with selected text. This action will highlight misspellings directly on the drawing. The spelling panel with interactive spelling suggestions and corrections is not used with this method.

Spelling (document) and Mark All Misspellings work the same as the two items described immediately above, except they apply to all text of the drawing.

Check Mark As You Type to enable or disable live spell checking. When enabled, misspelled words are highlighted as they are typed. The highlight marks remain after typing is completed.

Check Grammar to enable or disable grammar checking. This is only provided on Mac macOS version 10.5 (Leopard) or newer. Grammar issues are highlighted in a light green. Spelling issues are highlighted in a light red. When enabled grammar checking applies to both interactive spell checking and misspelling markings.

Clear Marked Misspellings will remove the misspelling highlights from selected text or all text if none is selected.

Ignored Spellings List will open a small drop down list of the misspelled words (as defined by the spelling dictionary in use) allowed for this drawing. These words are added to the list during interactive spell checking or they may be added using directly to the drop down list.

Misspelled markings are persistent, they will remain if the drawing is saved, closed, and re-opened. The Clear Marked Misspellings action is needed to clear these highlights. Or the highlight mark is cleared when the spelling is corrected.

The Ignored spellings list is different from Learned words that are appended to the system wide spelling dictionary. Ignored spellings apply to an individual drawing. They are saved with the drawing and will be present when a saved drawing is re-opened. Learned words are added to the spelling dictionary and thus apply to all drawings and perhaps to other documents managed by applications other than EazyDraw on your system.
