Tablet Action

This popup menu is used to enable pressure sensing of the stylus on a writing tablet. When enabled there are two methods for mapping stylus pressure to stroke line width.

The "Pressure" method maps stylus pressure to line width in a continuous fashion. The "Max Pressure" method causes the line width to be latched, or held at the maximum pressure (line width) value. The second method helps prevent the line width from becoming very small if the stylus is pulled "slowly" away from the tablet writing surface at the end of a drawing stroke.

When the action parameter is set to "Off" the pressure of the stylus on the tablet will not affect line width. You may still draw with the stylus. With the "off" action, the stylus pressure is not used when drawing and the Width parameter value determine line (or stroke) width.

The "Pressure" selection causes line width to be set in response to the pressure applied to the stylus. Applying increased downward force to the stylus will draw broader lines. The range of variability of the line width is determined by the Min and Max parameters found just below the "Action" menu. Less pressure will draw a thinner line.

The "Max Pressure" selection also causes line width to be set in response to the pressure applied to the stylus. Increased downward force increases line width. The width of the line remains at the limit point of the maximum pressure applied. Think of it as a one-way action, a harder push will make the line wider but a lighter stroke pressure has no affect.

When not using the "Max Pressure" action the stylus needs to be lifted decisively at the end of a drawing stroke. If the stylus is lifted slowly, the pressure sensing action will shrink the line width. But a smooth, decisive, lift is ignored by the sensing algorithms and the desired line width can be obtained.

The numerical value of the resulting line width is shown on the Color and Style Palette found under Tools on the Main Menu. The Width parameter value shows the resulting line width (or stroke width) in the Units chosen for the drawing.
